2009 Call for Entries

Eligibility
Unbuilt architectural designs of any project type are eligible including purely theoretical projects and unbuilt client-sponsored projects (buildings, interiors, transportation infrastructure, monuments, etc. – all project types). Projects under construction or otherwise apparently assured of construction are not eligible. Submitters must be residents of New Hampshire or full members of AIANH, or non-resident students attending school in New Hampshire. There are no restrictions on the presumed or imagined location of projects. The intent is to invite unbuilt work by practicing design professionals, design educators, and design students from New Hampshire.

Judging
The jurors are Grace N. Chiang AIA, Principal, Holt Architects, PC; Anton Christiansen AIA, LEED, Principal Associate, Holt Architects, PC; and Andrew Magre AIA, Senior Project Manager, Planning, Design & Construction, Cornell University; all from Ithaca, NY.

Awards
The jurors’ decisions will be based on the materials submitted. The jury may create award tiers and categories as it deems appropriate. Awards will be given at the annual AIANH Awards banquet in January 2009.

Entry Procedures
Entry due date: Entries are due by 5 p.m. October 17, 2008 at the AIANH office, 310 Marlboro St., 2nd Floor, Keene, NH.

Fees: Submissions must include a check payable to AIANH for the appropriate amount. Entry fees must be received for your project to be judged. Entry fee is $100.00 for each board submitted ($75.00 for AIANH members).

Submission fulfillment
Entries must be complete, adhere to the submission format below, include all supporting documents, and be accompanied by the entry fees. Projects that do not fulfill these requirements cannot be accepted.

Submission Requirements
Each submission is be to a single 20" x 20" x 3/16" (or 1/4") foam-core board. Boards are to be two-dimensional (using drawings, plans, photos, narrative material, etc.) and must not be framed or otherwise encumbered with metal, wood, glass, plastic or similar materials. While images of models may be included on your board, actual models are not eligible. Be sure the text on the board includes at least one simple sentence explaining what the project is and what the context is (neighborhood, urban, rural, climate, etc.). Each board must focus on one project only and each entrant may submit as many projects as you wish with the appropriate entry form and fee for each.

There should be no names, logos or other information on the board that identify the designer(s). No text on the board may be smaller than 10-point type and we suggest you limit text to 250 words. It is best to minimize text in favor of graphic imagery.

A sealed envelope should be attached to the rear of the board (upper-left corner) and it should contain:

submission fee of $100.00 ($75.00 for AIANH members)
a completed copy of the Entry Form and Permission Form
a hardcopy of all text on the board (include the title but do not include any identification of the designer)
a digital image of the board on a CD. On the outside of the envelope and on the upper-right corner of the back of the board, write only the name of the project.

Awards Submissions Exhibit
All submissions will be on view (with a People’s Choice Vote) at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Manchester, Dec. 1, 2008-Jan. 16, 2009, and displayed at selected sites throughout the year.

Awards Banquet
The Awards Banquet will be held January 16, 2009 at the NH Institute of Art in Manchester, NH. All entries will be on view and included in a Powerpoint presentation.
