IDID V Coming Up July 17-18! Ed Mazria is Keynote
Integrated Design/Integrated Development V: Climate times have changed—get ready for action! Buildings are the largest single source, and almost half, of greenhouse gas emissions, worldwide. By 2030, to prevent "catastrophic" climate change, all buildings must become carbon neutral. If this sounds impossible, the 2030 Challenge shows us that these targets are readily achievable.

Through workshops, panel discussions, walking and virtual tours, share the value of, and techniques for, multidisciplinary design processes that produce efficient, cost-effective, and beautiful buildings, grounds, communities, and landscapes — and that help us step up to the 2030 Challenge.

This year's event features keynote speaker Ed Mazria FAIA, founder of Architecture 2030 www.architecture2030.org. Make your reservation now! Space is limited.

AIA150 Project is "Plan of the Year"
The Durham/AIA150 Community Partnership's plan for the revitalization of downtown Durham was honored as the "2008 Plan of the Year" by the New Hampshire Planners Association. The visionary plan, entitled "A New Village Center," was the result of a year-long collaborative effort between AIANH, its AIA150 Partners, and the Mill Plaza Study Committee in Durham. It was the product of numerous public meetings, workshops and focus groups with residents to determine their vision for the future of the 10-acre property between Main Street and Mill Road.

President of the NH Planners Association, Jennifer Czysz, said, "The Mill Plaza Plan was selected by our Executive Board due to its exemplary demonstration of how New Hampshire communities can utilize an urban design-based approach to re-image their commercial strip malls as an integrated component of the community center." Czysz also stated that the board was pleased to see a design-based approach, when most New Hampshire plans typically use only a narrative, goal-based approach. "Additionally," she added, "the plan went way beyond the usual – creating a vision that graphically demonstrated what the final result would look like, as well as whether the design plan was financially feasible. The Mill Plaza effort represents a planning process and style worth emulating across the state."

Congratulations to all of our hardworking AIA150 participants, and thanks to our sponsors, including PSNH, Gilbane, UNH, MacMillin Co., JRT-AIA Architect, Schoonmaker Architects, and Swett Associates.

Look for our video documentary of the process to be available this summer!

On the Boards and Firm Profiles
We also want to publish more "On the Board" articles—about projects you are currently working on—and "Firm Profiles." We have a simple questionnaire to answer for the Firm Profiles and ask for one or two graphic pieces. Please contact the AIANH office to discuss both of theses features.

AIANH Calendar of Events
Do you have a little time to give to the NH Forum? We're looking for someone to put together the monthly calendar published both in the Forum and online. You would just need to compile a list of events related to architecture and send it to the AIANH office by email. No meetings; no driving! Deadline for each issue is the first of the month prior to publication. Please contact Carolyn Isaak, office@aianh.org, if you can help. And a huge thank you to William Hoffman ASLA for putting together the GSLA-related events for us and the extras he submits as well!
