December Education Day

Join us for our December Education Day. This year the morning will focus on Transitioning from the 2009 to the 2015 Building Codes in New Hampshire. NH currently enforces the 2009 editions, but there is pending legislation to adopt the 2015 codes. We will cover significant changes to the IBC and IRC from the current to the 2015 editions; review common mistakes, errors, and omissions in building code applications; and discuss NH amendments to these codes. Presenter: Jerry Tepe FAIA, JRT-AIA Architect.

The afternoon session will consist of three presentations on Universal Design starting with Age Friendly Cities & Universal Design by Jim Warner FAIA, BSA Design for Aging Committee, JSA, Inc. The presentation will include a short film, Celebrate the Voices, by the BSA Design for Aging Committee showcasing the challenges and benefits of aging in Boston, followed by case studies of how our own cities can embrace similar principles. Todd Hanson AIA, of JSA, Inc., will present Universal Design – Perspective from the Chair, first-hand insights from a disabled architect, including case studies, perceptions, and suggestions for designing for universally accessible spaces. The third presentation features Valerie Fletcher, Executive Director, Institute for Human-Centered Design on the Principles of Universal Design. Her talk will include an overview of Universal Design, demographics, specific issues, case studies, and a group discussion: What Would You Do?. Registration and more information.
