IDP Roundtable Discussions
Associate Director
Drew Queen Assoc. AIA
As you know, there are generally two parts to verbal communication, speaking and, most importantly, listening. This program’s primary objective is to initiate thought provoking discussions at all levels and to encourage feedback from the Emerging Professionals by speaking and listening.
Team activities such as quality improvement roundtable discussions are effective in improving communication among the Emerging {Professionals and can provide an opportunity for supportive participation and cooperation in solving problems. The IDP Roundtable Discussions also help develop communication skills needed in the public arena. Feedback from The Emerging Professionals is welcome and will be used to better understand their concerns, goals and aspirations.
What are the issues confronting the Emerging Professionals?
How can we, as a group, teach each other?
The goals for this initiative are:
- To bring Emerging Professionals together on a state wide level to promote a meaningful intellectual dialogue about architecture and the business of architecture, and
- To create a forum to discuss concerns, career goals and aspirations.
The following is a list of possible discussion topics one may encounter in a roundtable discussion and the list is not exhaustive by any means:
- Is there a unique NH architecture?
- The state of modern architecture in NH.
- What are the effects of IDP on the profession of architecture?
- What is the relevance of modernism, post modernism and de-constructivism to NH architecture?
- Old school apprentice system vs. Intern Development Program Pros and Cons.
- What are the pros and cons of the ARE…Format, content, length, etc.
