Windy Hilltop

Architect // Michael Petrovick Architects

Description

Constructed on a farm meadow with spectacular views of Mount Monadnock, the 1970s home was reimagined with an open plan which brough natural light into the interior while capturing the views from most spaces. The reuse of the existing structure combined with upgraded insulation, new windows and new systems decreased the home’s energy consumption and provided added comfort. The updated design for the interior is inspired by mid-century modern design which inspire the design for the original house. Services spaces such as the kitchen and bathrooms were relocated to the interior in order to maximized windows to the views and for natural lighting. Upon entry, the interior is in fully open through to the views. Most interior spaces have direct access to the wrap around deck and gardens providing a fully integrated interior with the exterior.

Whitcomb Hall Second Floor Auditorium Preservation

Architect // Michael Petrovick Architects

Description

Constructed in 1916, Whitcomb Hall was shuttered in 1988 due to numerous Building Code violation. Michael Petrovick Architects was retained by the Town to oversee the design for the rehabilitation of the second-floor auditorium. The project included the installation of new systems for Accessibility, HVAC, lighting, and life safety, along with repairs to historic features of the space and refinishing the tin ceilings, tin wall panels and woodwork. Extreme planning was executed where possible to conceal the new systems from sight in the primary spaces defining the building. The first floor and the exterior of the building had been previously rehabilitated in 2016. The project returned the Whitcomb Hall Auditorium to the Town capable of, once again, hosting large events.
