EDITORIAL ASSISTANT
AIA New Hampshire Forum Magazine

Forum is the official quarterly publication of AIA New Hampshire that showcases the architecture of the state. Forum serves as both a resource for the architectural community and a means to celebrate and share design excellence in New Hampshire. Each issue provides relevant content to support architects in the development of project typologies, products and technologies. More than a newsletter, Forum seeks to create connections among the architectural and building community and share the knowledge and experience with a wider audience. 

Forum tackles issues important in the state and often with regional and/or national importance. Content of each issue is tied to themes identified by the editorial board. One issue will always feature the award-winning projects and people recognized in the annual AIA New Hampshire Awards Program. 

With a wide and growing distribution of 2,500+ readers, Forum’s readership is comprised of architects, interior designers, landscape architects, planners, product designers, preservationists, construction companies, engineers, artists, media, manufacturers, educators, community organizers, political leaders and more.

Position Summary

The Forum Editorial Assistant will work closely with the Forum Editor and the Executive Director of AIA New Hampshire to facilitate timely and accurate content production for each issue.  

Duties include:

  • Writing articles for various sections of the publication as directed by the editor
  • Participating in quarterly editorial board meetings to brainstorm content ideas
  • Communication with feature parties, writers and others
  • Research and information gathering relevant to articles
  • Coordination with photographers 
  • Solicitation of materials from architecture firms and others
  • Attendance at quarterly editorial board meetings (virtual or in person)
  • Identifying advertising prospects

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Project coordination skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work in Slack and other applications as needed.  
  • Ability to represent Forum in a friendly, professional, and enthusiastic manner, working cooperatively with others.

Working Conditions:
The Forum Editorial Assistant role is a part time, at-will, contract position.  The successful applicant will manage their own time and work location and will furnish their own computer, internet connection and phone.  Travel expenses, if any, will be reimbursed.

Compensation: 
Minimum hourly compensation rate of $15 will be determined by experience of successful candidate.  It is anticipated that the editorial assistant will provide up to 100 work hours per issue.

Forum is published quarterly.  Billable hours will fluctuate over the production cycle of each issue.  The ideal candidate will have a flexible work schedule.  

The editorial assistant will submit invoices on a monthly basis.

BIM/CAD Specialist/SPACE UTILTIZATION SPECIALIST
UNH Campus Planning, University of NH, Durham

Produce, analyze and maintain the electronic floor plans and associated data for over 6 million square feet of building space. Working with units across the institution, coordinate the collection/maintenance of space data for the university’s integrated workplace management system (IWMS) database, and provide reports and trends for those units using that data. Develop and document the necessary processes to accomplish this, including exports of BIM/CAD files to the IWMS database for mission-critical facilities functions. Review and update, as needed, the campus space standards. Oversee and modify room numbering and provide room signage schedules for construction projects. Assist in the review, monitoring, indexing, and recording of all drawings and manuals submitted from project management, consultants, and sub-contractors. Ensure quality control of all electronic BIM and CAD deliverables for adherence to the University Planning, Design, and Construction Guidelines. Maintain all real estate records for University owned/leased properties including deeds, drawings and maps, and leases. Provide support for assessing property and space needs, utilizations, acquisitions, and dispositions.

Associate's degree is the acceptable minimum level of education.
Minimum years of experience: 5-7
UNH is a federal contractor within the meaning of the Executive Order on Ensuring Adequate COVID Safety Protocols for Federal Contractors. This position requires that you be vaccinated against COVID-19, unless you apply for and receive a religious or medical exemption.

Other minimum qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Architectural/Building Trades/BIM/CAD or a closely related field

  • Ability to deal with wide range of complex professional, technical, and project-related tasks where frequent independent interpretation and decision making is required.

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field such as environmental design, architecture, interior design 
  • Experience with asset management software (AssetWorks/Aim CAD, FAMIS/FAMIS CAD, Archibus, etc.). 
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or 3D modeling software other than the Autodesk Suite, such as SketchUp. 
  • Experience in a college/university setting. 
  • Experience in space planning.

Primary Responsibilities  


  • Work with OpenHome partner firms to manage their projects within Bensonwood’s internal process.  
  • Develop and/or review client and consultant proposals for projects, develop internal project budgets and schedules and keep these updated throughout the duration of the project.

  • Maintain and update OpenHome Standards (specifications, selections & finishes) Document.  
  • Collaboration with an interior designer.  
  • Manage time, communication, and documentation effectively to handle multiple projects at one time.   

Preferred Qualifications  

  • 5+ years in architectural design, construction, project management, or design/build  
  • Degree in architecture, interior architecture, construction management or related field  
  • Experience in sustainable design and building.  
  • Expertise in providing consultative style service.  Goal is to provide excellent customer service with a collaborative approach.
