NCARB Updates Testing Policies Due to COVID-19

Following the global outbreak of COVID-19, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has updated a number of its testing policies to address the shifting needs of more than 18,600 emerging members of the design community who are currently studying for or planning to take the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) in the coming months.

Due to the closure until April 16 of Prometric— the U.S.–based testing company that operates ARE testing centers—NCARB has waived rescheduling fees through the end of April so that test takers can reschedule their existing exam appointments. Currently, NCARB recommends that those affected reschedule their appointments online for late-May, June, or July.

NCARB has also granted a 90-day extension to individuals who have received a valid passing exam score on any of the six divisions of the ARE, aiming to ease the organization's "rolling clock" policy.
